Why telepsychology?
According to the American Psychology Association, teletherapy offers “increased access to therapy for individuals with physical, medical and/or mobility disabilities.” It, the APA goes on, also provides more flexible scheduling, as well as access to therapy in native languages. Researchers thoroughly examined this practice’s performance during the pandemic lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, and conclude that this stressful period has strongly demonstrated both its convenience and effectiveness.
What is Cognitive Therapy?
Cognitive Therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach used in the treatment of a variety of psychological and psychiatric disorders. Dr. Aaron Beck discovered and developed CT in the 1960s, and therapists around the world apply it with positive results – enhanced by a unique record of relapse prevention – in an increasing range of psychological and medical problems.
Since 1977, many studies and research efforts have affirmed the validity and efficacy of Cognitive Therapy, followed by extra findings by international and American researchers supporting the effectiveness of the therapy’s application in the treatment of a wide variety of psychiatric and psychological illnesses and disorders. Furthermore, much of this research has found it to be helpful and effective as well in the treatment of many medical conditions.
Cognitive Therapy is based on the patient’s own needs and issues – the therapists’s values and biases are not a factor in the therapy. As a result, freedom from culture-bias is clearly among the most important of Cognitive Therapy’s many advantages.
